Choose Short or Long at 8-8 or 14-14

When the scores are level one point short of the target, SCRD stops play and asks the receiver, whichever player is due to receive serve at that score, to choose Short or Long before the next rally. A pop-up names the receiver and puts the target on each button. Scoring stays locked until they choose.

Hand-in-hand-out: at 8-8

Hand-in-hand-out games are played to 9, so the call comes at 8-8, in every game. There is nothing to switch on.

• Short (to 9): the game stays at 9.
• Long (to 10): the game goes to 10.

Rally scoring: when the match is set to Long/Short

Rally scoring only asks if you chose Long/Short on Match settings, before the match started. The choice sits under Points to win (First to, in a Total of match) and is labelled with the score it applies at: "At 14–14" in a game to 15, "At 10–10" in a game to 11. The call comes at that score, one point short of the target.

• Short (to 15): the game ends at 15, so the next point wins.
• Long (to 17): the game goes to 17, so it ends 17-14, 17-15 or 17-16.

Those are the targets for a game to 15. Short is always Points to win, and Long is two points more, so a game to 11 offers Short to 11 or Long to 13. After the call there is no win by 2: the game ends as soon as someone reaches the target.

Once the call is made, the referee screen and the court TV show it, for example LONG · TO 17. The receiver can make a different call in each game, and a game that never gets level at that score ends as normal.

Picked the wrong one? Tap UNDO. It takes back the point that made the scores level along with the choice, so award that point again and SCRD asks again. If that point was itself a mistake, choose either, then tap UNDO and award the rally to the right player.
