Choose the scoring format: Rally scoring, Hand-in-hand-out or Total of

Match settings, the second step of setup, is where you choose how the match is scored. SCRD remembers the format on this phone for this court, so most nights there is nothing to change.

• Rally scoring: every rally scores a point. Set Points to win (11 or 15 are usual), what happens at the tie (see below) and Best of (3 or 5 are usual, 1 and 7 are there too). This is the default format, and the line under its name shows what is set, for example "First to 15 · Long/Short · Best of 5".
• Hand-in-hand-out: traditional 9 point scoring where only the server can score. Set Best of only. The game itself runs to 9, and the receiver always makes the Short or Long call at 8-8, so there is nothing to set for it.
• Total of: rally scoring over a fixed number of games, every one played even once the result looks settled. Set First to (points per game), what happens at the tie (see below), Total of (how many games to play) and Decided by. Decided by is what settles the match: Most points adds up every point across all the games, Most games counts the games each player won. Most points is the default, and the card under the format name tells you which is set.

Rally scoring and Total of both let you choose what happens when the score is level one point short of the target. The choice sits under Points to win (First to, on Total of) and is labelled with that score, so it reads "At 10–10" in a game to 11 and "At 14–14" in a game to 15. It has three options:

• Win by 2: play on until someone leads by 2. This is the default.
• Next point: the next point wins, so a game to 15 ends 15-14.
• Long/Short: the receiver calls Short (first to 15) or Long (first to 17), and there is no win by 2 after the call. It needs Points to win of at least 2, and is greyed out below that. The article on choosing Short or Long covers what the referee does when the call comes.
